Rebel Win Comes Late in Game
The Rebel Yell pulled out a close game to win the first of the season against the Shipyard Sharks, 55-50. The Rebels were losing by two points going into the Monday Night game with Selvin Young still to run. After three quarters, it looked like the Rebels might not get the needed production from Selvin. Then with a short plunge into the endzone, the victory was sealed.

The team won without firing on all cylinders for the first week of the season. The TE position didn't score a point as the starter Alge Crumpler and the backup Dustin Keller combined for 1 catch and 4 yards. Braylon Edwards dropped several passes and did not look sharp due to him taking a few pre-season games off to heal his foot injury. If it wasn't for Drew Brees and his 343 yards passing and 3 touchdown performance, the Rebels might have lost their sloppy opener. Drew was awarded his first Robert E. Lee gameball for leading the team to victory.

"We really need to get back into the film room and look at why we are making so many mistakes," said head coach Jackson. "We can't afford to keep playing this lackluster style of offense against the teams of this league. We will be looking from the outside in at the playoffs if we don't start performing like we should."
Stonewall Makes Debut
During media day, the Rebel Yell franchise revealed their new team mascot, Stonewall. The organization has been looking for a new mascot since Jackson was promoted to head coach at the beginning of last season.

Stonewall brings a lot of real world experience to the role of mascot. During the Cival War, he was mortally wounded leading a counter-charge during the 1864 Battle of Spotsylvania. After 144 years of boredom at the bottom of his grave, Stonewall crawled his way to freedom and walked right into the Yell headquarters. After licking himself from excitement of this wonderful opportunity, Coach Jackson immediately signed Stonewall to a lifetime contract.
Rebel Yell Announce Contract Extensions for 2008
The Rebel Yell announced today that the team has signed four players for the 2008 season. Wide receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker were key members of the team last year and were award immediately after the season ended with 1 year contracts. Running backs DeAngelo Williams and newly acquired Selvin Young were also obtained with similar contracts.

"We had a great, but disappointing season last year," stated GM and Owner Mark Saylor. "Without Moss and Welker, we wouldn't have have won as many games as we did. It was only right that we signed them for another year."

GM Saylor was not the only member of the staff that felt the importance of Moss and Welker. "Due to their leadership on and off the field, I have named Moss and Welker co-captains of the team for this upcoming season," said Coach Jackson. We know that we can expand on our success last year and reach the SuperBowl this year. Anything less would be failure."
