Cellar Dwelling Rebel Yell Win ToiletBowl II
Finally the Rebel Yell team awoke from their season long slumber as they beat the Browns 61 - 59 in Toiletbowl II. It was another hotly contested battle as the Rebel Yell (4-10) team slightly edged out The Browns (5-9). The Rebel Yell team got a big boost from their normal stars. The St Louis Defense (16), Todd Peterson (14) and Tyrone Wheatley (17) scored 47 of the Rebels' 61 points. Jake Plummer was back from injury and led the team at the troubled quarterback spot. The Browns got most of their scoring from their stars, Brunell (14), Smith (12), and Del Greco (13). Unfortunately for The Browns, Napolean Kauffman (18) and Denver's Defense (13) were on their bench. Coach Saylor concluded the season with these remarks, "We probably didn't have the best of seasons, but for all the adversity we had, we did damn well. I am looking forward to next season and I hope we can use this win as a springboard to launch us into the playoffs next year."

Pre-Season Outlook and Auction Recap:
The 1999 season went into full swing with the first ever player auction on the eve of the NFL season opener. Coach Saylor and his staff studied long and hard this off-season and came away from the auction with a solid team. Coach Saylor had a few remarks about the auction... "We needed to make sure that some of our picks could be obtained at a salary that made the player worth while to keep for the next year. I think we will be making Curtis Enis and Ed McCaffrey our franchise players. But who knows, things could change. It is still early in the season."

The Rebel Yell are solid at QB (Young, Testeverde, and Blake) and also at WR (Glenn, McCaffrey, Chrebet, Anthony, and Hillard). The RB position is a little thin with Robert Smith and Enis, backed up by JJ Johnson. The TE core is solid (Brady and Wychek) and we have a good defense in NY Giants. If the team can pick up the hot early prospect like Coach Saylor is renowned for, the team could once again make a run for the playoffs.

Week 1: Rebel Yell 80 - The Browns 50
For the first time since the inaugural season, the Rebel Yell win the season opener, 80 - 50 against The Browns. The match up showcased the highest scoring team (Rebel Yell) against the potentially highest scoring team (The Browns - 101 pts). The outcome could have gone either way, but Coach Saylor stuck with his favorite receiver, Ed McCaffrey, who had a 23 point performance Monday night to seal the victory. "How many times have we seen Ed pull in the big game to help us to victory in the last two years", says Coach Saylor. "Three, four, maybe five times... I guarantee he is my choice for unsung hero in this league."

A bad note to this weeks win was the loss of QB Vinnie Testeverde for the 1999 season. Vinnie was resigned this year to back up the veteran Steve Young. Now with Vinnie out with a ruptured Achilles tendon, Jeff Blake must step up and fill his shoes. In the press conference, Coach had this to say... "If this is the only major injury we have this year, we can count ourselves lucky. We had a lot of depth at the QB spot and we will free up some money to spend on Free Agents to fill other voids. Who knows, it might work out for the best. Unfortunately, we lost a good clubhouse leader."

Week 2: Rebel Yell 50 - Strawmakers 54
How many times in my life do I have to lose to the Strawmakers. Once again the Strawmakers pull out a close one, winning 54-50. Not much smack was talked this week, but I am sure that it will start to flow as the season gets more under way. The Coach has no comment, since he is weeping in a corner like a 2 year old. Damn those Strawmakers!!

Week 3: Rebel Yell 37 - TECtonic Movement 65
The TECtonic Movement players all seemed to find the end-zone to beat the Rebel Yell in week 3. Late pickups, (O'Donnell, McGee, and Stoyanovich) helped propel the TECtonic Movement over the lowest scoring performance of the year for the Rebel Yell. "Our guys just couldn't get in the end-zone", Coach Saylor quipped. "They had good performances, but just got beat by a better team this week. We are more worried about Steve Young than about the loss this week. It is a long season and we will see all these teams again at the end of the season." The Rebel Yell was once again anchored by Ed McCaffrey and Curtis Enis.

Week 4: Rebel Yell 33 - Kodiak Bears 74
The Rebel Yell players rolled over and played dead at the site of the mighty Kodiak Bears in week 4. "It is just pathetic how this team is playing," shouted an angry Coach Saylor. "I will make changes this week. I guarantee it and no player, I repeat, no player is guaranteed to start this coming week. They will all have to prove they are worth the money in practice or I will go out an get new talent." Could it be that Coach Saylor is more angry with the 1-3 start his team has or that he lost horribly to his brother Matt's team, the Kodiak Bears. We will have to see what happens this week.

Trade: (October 6, 1999)
Coach Saylor didn't waste time in making roster moves for the Rebel Yell after the disappointing lose to the Kodiak Bears. The management went out to get another quality QB in Jake Plummer from the Rambling Gophs. Jake has been having a rather below average year, but management thinks that will turn around. Bam Morris was also was acquired in the trade that saw Robert Smith and Byron Hanspard on their way to the Gophs. When ask what he thought about the trade, Coach Saylor replied, "Smith and Hanspard were just not productive enough to be considered Rebels. I hope that the rest of the team understands that I will not just sit around and watch mediocre play."

Week 5: Rebel Yell 41 - Cereal Kilurz 44
The Cereal Kilurz won a close pitched battle in Week 5. The Rebel Yell looked like they owned the field until the Cereal Kilurz mounted a last second rally with Antonio Freeman the focal point. Freeman scored a touchdown with less than one minute in the game to beat the Yell 44-41. "It was a very hard lose to take", stated Coach Saylor. "We thought we had the game wrapped up and it was all unwrapped with less than a minute left. We just have to forget about the lose and prepare for next week. If we can pool a win out in Week 6, we are still in the race."

The Rebel Yell took another setback this week as Shane Matthews pulled a hamstring in the second half. "We will give Jake the start next week, but will miss Shane. He was a very consistent QB and gave us about 10 points a week. We hope he will be healthy soon."

Week 6: Rebel Yell 46 - Kong 34
Coach Proper felt the whip as the Rebel Yell tamed the mighty Kong in Week 6. It was a much needed victory for the Yell as they move to 2-4 in the league and only 2 games back in the wild card race. The bad news came in the form of another QB hitting the locker room due to injury. Jake Plummer, the 5th starting QB for the Yell this year, left the game in the second half with a broken ring finger on the throwing hand. He will miss 4-6 weeks. Confronted on what he will do in Week 7, Coach Saylor pines, "Another week, another QB gone. I don't know what we need to do different to keep the QBs healthy. Everyone knows that you need a good quality QB to take you into the playoffs."

The management was busy during the week trying to trade for a quality QB, but all the effort was for not. Instead, the Rebel Yell's starter for Week 7 will be newly acquired free agent, Damon Huard.

Week 7: Rebel Yell 34 - Second Half Slide 38
The Rebel Yell lose not only their 5th game of the year, but also their 6th starter. Tyrone Wheatley will be sidelined a while with a bad back. He fumbled twice on the day and scored an very unimpressive -4 points for the team. "You can't blame one or two guys for the lose this week", cried Coach Saylor. "We just aren't getting any breaks. I never thought Terry Glenn would be caught from behind on the 1 yard line. Damon Huard played well, but ended with 0 points against an pathetic defense in Philadelphia."

There is talk in the front office of the Rebel Yell about a possible coaching change. "We don't know if we can blame this on Coach Saylor or lack of luck," stated VP of Operations Saylor. "We have been hit with the injury bug this year, but the team's morale is low. Let's just hope some wins are in the future."

Week 8: Rebel Yell 40 - Shipyard Sharks 60
The injury bug continued in Week 8 with Shane Matthews, Ed McCaffrey, and Frank Wychek leaving the game. To add insult to injury, Curtis Enis was ejected from his game early in the 4th quarter. "I feel like the warden of a hospital, not the coach of a football team", sobbed Coach Saylor. "I just don't know what to do. We practiced long and hard this off-season so this would not happen, and yet it still does. I don't even want to send my guys out there anymore because they will probably get hurt." The Yell will be without McCaffrey, Wychek, and Matthews for 1 to 2 weeks.

Week 9: Rebel Yell 35 - Rambling Gophs 53
The Rebel Yell lose once again, 53-35 to the Crocs Division leader, the Rambling Gophs. The Yell team played well, but did not find the end-zone a lot as they posted one of their lowest scores of the year. "I think that the Gophers were beatable this week, but we just didn't get the breaks," commented Coach Saylor. "For the first time this year, we didn't have a severe injury to a starter. Of Course, that is to not mention that most of our normal starters are already on the bench in bandages."

The Rebel Yell are building for the future and have started loading up on young inexpensive talent. When asked, Coach Saylor said, "We are not as concerned with winning this year as we are about winning next year. We are not worried that we will lose the Toilet Bowl, because we feel our team will not be even going to that bowl game. With Joey Galloway now available to play and McCaffrey coming back, we will start winning games."

Week 10: Rebel Yell 34 - Pandora's Box 49
The Rebel Yell lost again this week to the expansion team, Pandora's Box. The only good news of the weekend came in the surprise that the team could go through a weekend without hurting any of their starters. "We got a good effort from Tyrone Wheatley and Todd Peterson this week, but really need to settle our QB situation," stated Coach Saylor. "We can not continue to get less than 5 points from our QB and expect to be in contention. We will definitely shake things up next week."

Week 11: Rebel Yell 58 - T's Money 50
The Rebel Yell scored over 50 points for the first time since week 1 and in return get their 3rd victory of their season at the expense of the expansion team, T's Money. For the second week in a row, the Rebel Yell team made it through the game without any major injuries. The scoring was led by newly acquired Jim Miller and the St. Louis defense. Curtis Enis scored for the first time since week 3 and added some offense at the RB position. The team is looking forward to division play in Week 12 and is hoping to spoil some team's records with a lose.

Week 12: Rebel Yell 39 - The Browns 59
The expansion team Browns made up for their earlier season loss to the Rebel Yell with a 59-39 performance in Week 12. The loss almost secured the Rebel Yell of the honor of going to the Toilet Bowl in 1999, while the win for the Browns will probably keep them out of the infamous bowl. The Rebel Yell team was led again by Jim Miller and the St. Louis defense. The strong performances by Torry Holt and Jake Plummer from the bench would not have helped the Yell overcome the points put up by The Browns. Management and Coaching staff declined to comment on the Rebel Yell's 3-9 record, but did promise to look for future improvements to the team.

Trade: (AP Wire - November 30, 1999)
Two teams that are concentrating on next year have come to terms on a brilliant trade. The Rebel Yell will be shipping Terry Glenn, Frank Wychek and Torry Holt to T's Money in exchange for the contract of Isaac Bruce. All of the new players for T's Money can be considered keepers and will help build a better team for next year. The Rebel Yell coach, Mark Saylor, was cornered in the locker room this afternoon and had many things to say. "I can't believe we went out and got a premier guy this late in the season. Don't get me wrong, Isaac Bruce will be a wonderful addition to our team and will just add depth to our talented wide receiver corps next year of McCaffrey and Galloway. I just don't like giving up Terry Glenn and my boy Frank. I guess the up side of the trade is that Bruce will be available for the week 14 showdown with Kurt Warner and the Strawmakers."

Rebel Yell upper management had this to say about the trade: "We aren't guarantying that we are keeping all 3 wide receivers for next year. We have had inquiries already from top teams wanting Ed or Joey for their teams down the stretch. If we can get a solid QB or RB out of this, we might just go that direction."

Isaac Bruce will report to the Yell camp this afternoon and will be ready to start Sunday along side McCaffrey if all things go well.

Week 13: Rebel Yell 57 - The TECtonic Movement 41
The Rebel Yell gave the TECtonic Movement their first division lost this week as Jake 'The Snake' Plummer, Curtis Enis, and St. Louis Defense helped propel the team over 50 points for the 3rd time this year. With a win against the Strawmakers in Week 14 and a win from the Rambling Gophs, the Rebel Yell will be out of the cellar just in time to miss the Toilet Bowl. "We have a slight chance to miss that disgusting bowl in Week 15, but we have to beat our arch-rivals," commented Coach Saylor. "We have been revamping our lineup since week 7 trying to put together a challenge for those 'dried out clumps of straw'. We will just see if our new guys can light it up and burn down the Strawmakers next week."

Week 14: Rebel Yell 30 - Strawmakers 80
Those DAMN BLASTED Strawmakers won again!! Say no more!! Rebel Yell play against The Browns in the Toilet Bowl.

1999 Toiletbowl II: Rebel Yell 61 - The Browns 59
The Rebel Yell team woke up as they ended the season in the cellar. Toilet Bowl II was another hotly contested battle as the Rebel Yell (4-10) team slightly edged out The Browns (5-9). The Rebel Yell team got a big boost from their normal stars. The St Louis Defense (16), Todd Peterson (14) and Tyrone Wheatley (17) scored 47 of the Rebels' 61 points.
