Geocaching
Geocaching is the joining of two familiar words. The prefix geo, for Earth, was used to describe the global nature of the activity, but also for its use in familiar topics in gps such as geography. Caching, from the word cache, refers to a hiding place someone would use to temporarily store items. The word cache stirs up visions of pioneers, gold miners, and even pirates.

After listening to some of my friends talk about geocaching, I decided in the fall of 2007 that I was interested in looking into the fun. With the help of those same friends, we picked out a beginner level GPS unit (Garmin eTrex Legend) to request for Christmas from my parents. I figured I would take my nephews in Illinois for a walk to find out if I liked the hobby.

Well, I was hooked... all it took was the first cache find to realize that I enjoyed the hunt. It is a great activity when I am stuck on the road for business, or even when I visit the parents in Pennsylvania. The truth is that you can do the activity anywhere and at anytime. I have been known to walk up to canals in Florida at night with a flashlight trained on the water for alligators. I am addicted.

My userid on both geocaching.com and terracaching.com is BRIJAC. Come and join me in the fun!
