Appomattax Court House
September 10, 2004 - On the way back from the annual Labor Day Chicago trip, I took a few days vacation by myself and detoured down through Kentucky and Tennessee to visit many of the battlefields that I have read so much about over the years. Here are some of the pictures that I took during my trip.

McLean House

The house in which Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia.  This house is a replica of the original house that was dismantled in the late 1800's to be moved to Washington DC.  The financing of the move fell through and the wood of the house was destroyed.

This is the room in which Robert E. Lee surrendered to U.S. Grant.

Appomattox Court House

The courthouse in which the town was named. This view is from the North looking due South.

Clover Hill Tavern

The Clover Hill Tavern is located due north of the courthouse in town.

Appomattox County Jail / Isbell House

The view of the county jail (left) and the Isbell House is taken from the road beside the court house looking due East.

Appomattox Court House Battlefield

A view of the battlefield from outside the historical village entrance on Rt. 24 looking west.
